To encourage the adoption of preventive approach for the maintenance of water systems, in the woreda of Ofa in Ethiopia (a woreda is equivalent to a district), the Water Mine and Energy Office (Water institutions in Ethiopia) is implementing routine mechanisms for the review of all water infrastructures. WWMEO Experts are reminding and following all water users’ Associations to proceed to a yearly self diagnosis of their water system. They are mainly facilitating and orienting the development of this diagnosis by pointing out possible risks and alterations. A report that includes recommendations, cost estimation and action plan is established to help the communities for the maintenance. Communities can rely on a network of local artisans who can manage the repairs.

This note is a communication tool used by the WWMEO experts to explain their work.
