Effect of the latrines coverage on diarrhea cases of under 5 children

By 4 September 2015June 27th, 2022

An exhaustive study done in 2011 in 167 villages of the south of Ethiopia – representing 41 907 persons – shows, by comparing latrines coverage among the communities and diarrhea cases of under 5 children, that significant effects on frequency of diarrhea are observed only when the ratio of people using latrines in a community is going above 75-80%.

Therefore, it indicates that preventing open defecation and total sanitation are compulsory to get significant progress

The attached note summarizes the results and the appendix details protocols and methodology of analysis.
